Reading
We are continuing to learn and practice reading fluently and we are learning to infer when reading.

Writing
Students continue to work through the writing process during writer's workshop time and will be bringing home their published work soon.

Math
We will be wrapping up chapter 17 (addition stories) this week.

Science
Habitats and animals

Students chose "dance party in the gym" for their end of the month Dojo party. Students receiving a certificate (40 points) will be participating this Friday.

May 16-20

This week we are stating our last mini-unit. We will be studying and learning about animals for the next three weeks. This unit will culminate with our zoo field trip on June 2 and a BYOC (bring your own coffee) event on June 3 (parents are invited to the classroom from 11-12:30 on this day).

Reading
We are reading non-fiction text on animals and their habitats. We are learning the comprehension strategy of inferring. Students are also hearing stories during story time read by their classmates.

Math
Addition stories. Complete and return the math packets sent home last week for a trip to Mr. E's store.

Writing
We will continue with "writer's workshop" where the kids are creating their own fiction stories.
