April 29-May 3

Reading
Whose Garden is it?
We will be learning about gardens and plants.

Writing
Poetry and being authors.

Math
Counting on and counting back. (the beginnings of adding and subtracting)

Science
Observing our growing plants with our senses.

I have been working on making the blog better the last couple weeks. I added a place for youtube videos but it doesn't always show up. So, to fix that I attached my blog to my google+ account (at least I think I did) so that you can go to that and watch the videos and see the pictures we take in class. I am hoping this will make our school week more interactive so that you can follow along and have questions to ask your child. Let me know what you think or if anything is not working. This is a work in progress.

April 22-26

Reading
We are reading Seeds and starting our LAST unit of the year "Connecting with our environment". We will learn all about different seeds and plants and how they grow. (if possible, have your child collect seeds from home and bring them in for our classroom collection) We will be planting our own plants in the classroom. Also, FOR THE FAMILY PROJECT, DO NOT BRING IN THE PLANT FROM HOME BUT JUST A SUMMARY/PICS/VIDEO OF WHAT HAPPENED.

Writing
Poetry! The kids are loving it! Writer's workshop.

Math
Adding, ordinal numbers (first, second, third...)

Science
Seeds, plants, sequencing a plants life

Also, I have added a spot to check out videos we take in class. It is on the right side on the top. Check out what we have been up to.

April 15-19

Reading
This week we are reading Earth Day books and learning how we can help save our planet. This is the culmination of unit 3 as well as an introduction into our last unit "Connecting with your environment". We will be listening, reading and performing Jack Johnson's song from the "Curious George" movie called "The three Rs". Here is a link to the song that you can watch and talk about with your child. Also, I will be asking the students to bring in a recyclable item at some point this week to do something with. If we have time, I would like to have the students write and perform their own plays this week instead of being assigned one.

Writing
Week two of poetry. The students are loving poetry and this week we will be learning about adjectives that describe how animals move and look. They will write their own poems about animals. They will also be writing a paragraph about how they can help save the earth.

Math
We are finishing up our chapter on comparing numbers. Students were introduced last week to the less than <, greater than > and equal to = signs.

Should be a fun week in room 110!

Reminder: Report card pick-up is on Wednesday. Sarah has emailed out a schedule to sign-up for a time and I think it is on the blog as well. See you all Thursday.

See how we grow is our book for the week. We will be discussing how we change in our life.

Writing
We are starting poetry this week as well as continuing to make books.

Math
Comparing sets and numbers

Phonics
Blends and word families (am, im, um, ing)

Friday is a half day. Dismissal is at 11:15.

What's new
We will no longer be having guest reader time on Fridays because students are going to be the readers. I choose two or three students to read aloud to the class every Friday afternoon. You will be notified on Monday of the week with a paper explaining everything if your child's was chosen that week.

Also, we are doing reader's theater in the classroom. Students will receive scripts on Monday of each week that they can either keep in school to practice or bring back and forth from school and home. We will perform every Friday and the performances will be put on my youtube channel and then the links to those videos will be on the blog. Please practice with your child. Reader's theater is supposed to help students read more fluently (read like they talk).
